Suriname Flag
Suriname's flag was formally adopted on November 25, 1975, when the country gained independence. The flag's design was chosen through a countrywide competition. It was originally raised on Suriname's independence day.
From top to bottom, the flag has five horizontal stripes of equal width that are colored green, white, red, white, and blue. The colors represent the country's natural resources as well as its political history. Suriname's forests and agriculture are represented by the green stripe, while the white stripes signify peace and justice, progress is represented by the red stripe, and the sky is represented by the blue stripe.
Suriname's flag must be flown on all ships visiting other nations in order to prevent the possibility of misinterpretation.
