The national emblem of Egypt, the eagle of Saladin, is a symbol of power and strength and represents the Egyptians' resistance to foreign domination. It is displayed in the center of the white band on the national flag. The eagle is derived from the Coat of Arms of Egypt, which was used during the Ottoman Empire and was adopted by the Egyptian monarchy in 1866.

The eagle of Saladin (a gold eagle of Saladin facing the hoist side with a shield superimposed on its chest above a scroll bearing the name of the country in Arabic) is often referred to as the Pharaoh's eagle and may have been inspired by the waving banner of Muhammad's troops at Khaybar.
