Tuvalu Flag
Tuvalu's flag is a sky blue field with a Union Jack in the canton. The nine Tuvaluan islands are represented by nine yellow stars placed in a circle in the center of the field. Tuvalu gained independence from the Gilbert and Ellice Islands in 1978, and the flag was adopted.
The stars on the flag are arranged geographically correctly, with the east at the top. The flag is based on the Union Jack, as are the flags of other former British colonies.
