Guernsey Flag
Guernsey's flag is a red Saint George's Cross with a gold Norman cross within it. It was introduced in 1985 to differentiate Guernsey from England at international athletic events, as the two countries had previously used the same flag.
The Guernsey Flag Investigation Committee designed the flag, which was unveiled on the island on February 15, 1985. The gold cross is said to represent William the Bastard, Duke of Normandy, who received a cross like this from Pope Alexander II and flew it on his standard during the Battle of Hastings.
Since 2000, the government has employed a red ensign with a cross in the fly, as well as a blue ensign. Guernsey's flag represents the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a self-governing dependency of the British Crown.
