Norfolk Island's flag is made up of three horizontal green, white, and green bands with a green Norfolk Island Pine tree in the center. When the island obtained limited self-government in 1979, this flag was adopted. Since June 6th of that year, it has served as the official flag of the Territory of Norfolk Island.
The pine tree, which is a native tree to the territory and is legally designated as the territorial tree, is displayed in the center.
